The last day
Monday was always going to be a short day for us. We started it off at Bob Evans and boy was that a great start. We all really enjoyed that meal, and maybe after yesterday in Cracker Barrel that had something to do with it. We all had a hunger in us and we all were excited to try out Bob's place. Turned out that everyone's meal was right on the mark. It was Dean who urged us to go there so props to my boy Dean for mentioned the place.
After breakfast we headed for our last destination...Arcadia!
Arcadia is like going back in time...for real. No joking; it was a shot of from the past that was a total pleasure. We went there to do some antiquing cause there's nothing like buying antiques from a town that looks like an antique. :)
The ride down there was a refresher course on how "Green" Florida really is. So many of us live around cities that we forget Florida is mostly woods and flowers with a lake or stream thrown in for good measure. Well everyone in the car was saying that they felt like they were in Virginia or some other state other than our precious Florida. The long and winding road was so beautiful and such a joy to share with everyone and we all were very excited and pleased that we made the 1/2 hour trip.
On the way we saw some pretty neat stuff but the most coolest thing was an old General Store next to an old Train Station. Someone say Petticoat Junction. It was so neat.
When we arrived in Arcadia it was so quite that I almost expected a tumbleweed to roll by. We started our adventure under a really impressive tree. Looks like this beauty has been around far longer than any of us and the town folk wrapped it with a yellow ribbon. It instantly reminded me of the Tony Orlando and Dawn song...(all together now) "Tie a Yellow ribbon round the old oak tree, its been three long years, do you still want me, if I don't see a ribbon round the old oak tree, I'll stay on the bus , forget about us, put the blame on me, If I don't see a Yellow Ribbon round the old oak tree". Yeah I know that I know all these obscure song form the 70's that have lost there place in society, but what can I say.
I was scared that all the stores would be closed because of Memorial Day but to my surprise many were open and I even found some nice little gems. Everything was pretty much reasonable so I didn't want to just buy a bunch of nic-nacks that would just end up in a garage sale. But I did thing about finding some gems for eBay. :)
After walking the streets and scouring the stores, we decided it was time to end our little adventure and Nb was ready for his drive home.
So we left with the knowledge that one day we will return with empty stomachs to try some of the local restaurants.
Back in Port Charlotte NB was gone before I realized and Leela and Dean were right after them.
We said our goodbyes and mom and I decided to grab a bite in Punta Gorda after we did a bit of grocery shopping and the local Sweetbay (cute little market, clean and fresh). We ended up at this local dive that was more bar than restaurant so we left that for another time. Where we ended up was River City Grill that offered the best crab cakes I have ever tasted. Is there a bad restaurant anywhere in these parts? I really don't think so!
Well thanks for spending some time with me and my friends on our vacation. Hope to see you back soon!
